Ask around and you'll hear operators describe downtime on the busiest day of the year as a cost of doing business — and quietly keep a paper backup plan for when it happens. That's not a standard we accept.
"Offline mode" usually means one register limping along.
Plenty of platforms list offline mode on a feature page. The question worth asking in a demo is what happens to the other devices in the building.
What most offline modes do
One terminal keeps taking sales and stores them locally. The register beside it has no idea what just sold. Check-in can't see the queue. The back room is working from a printout. When you reconnect, somebody reconciles it by hand.
What CannaCtrl does
Every device keeps talking to every other device — iPhones, iPads and Macs, peer to peer within about 30 metres. Front check-in, the packing room and all your registers stay in one shared, consistent picture with no internet anywhere in the building. Nothing to reconcile afterwards.

Why we built it this way
Thousands scanned a day. No cell. No Wi-Fi.
CannaCtrl didn't start as a POS. It started as LoudCloud — a mobile tool for scanning and verifying IDs at the gates of cannabis events pulling 10,000+ people a day through the gates. Field conditions, dense crowds, and the kind of connectivity you get when ten thousand phones are fighting over one tower. Which is to say: none.
We were the official partner for the High Times Cannabis Cup, and the platform had to work regardless. Standing at those gates, the thing that stood out was what the vendors were doing — hauling in printers, scanners and boxes of hardware to run a few days of sales.
That was the moment. If a phone can verify ten thousand people a day with no signal, it can run the register too.
Every offline decision in CannaCtrl traces back to that. It wasn't a feature bolted on after a bad 4/20 — it's the assumption the product was built on, years before it had a storefront to sell to.
And then there's the driver in the canyon.
Delivery routes don't respect coverage maps. Drivers lose signal in parking garages, rural stretches and the dead spot two blocks from a regular customer. The driver app keeps working through it — arrival, ID scan, signature and proof of delivery are captured on the device and sync the moment there's a bar of service. Nobody sits in a driveway waiting for a spinner.
